Advance Technology Screening

Eyeworks offers the latest advances technology screening not offered at every optometry office. These devices provide additional ways to assess the health of your eye and diagnose diseases or disorders that may not be detected in a comprehensive exam alone. Both of these screenings can be performed with little extra time during your exam. Both tests are recommended by our optometrists at a minimum of once a year.

OPTOS Retinal Exam

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. We offer the optomap® Retinal Exam as an important part of our eye exams. The optomap® Retinal Exam produces an image that is as unique as you fingerprint and provides us with a wide view to look at the health of your retina. The retina is the part of your eye that captures the image of what you are looking at, similar to film in a camera. Where dilation offers discomfort, light sensitivity and vision impairment for up to 6 hours, OPTOS has no side effects whatsoever.

Many eye problems can develop without you knowing. You may not even notice any change in your sight. But, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough OPTOS Retinal Exam Equipment.

An optomap® Retinal Exam provides:

  • A scan to show a healthy eye or detect disease.
  • A view of the retina, giving your doctor a more detailed view than he/she can get by other means.
  • The opportunity for you to view and discuss the optomap® image of your eye with your doctor at the time of your exam.
  • A permanent record for your patient file, allowing us to view your images each year to compare any changes.
  • A digital file of your retina which can be sent to a specialist if need be or even you!

The Optomap® Retinal Exam is simple, fast, easy, and comfortable for all ages and was created by a loving father whose child went blind due to an diagnosed spontaneous retinal detachment. He vowed to help others not experience same. Optomap is recommended annually for all patients and may be recommended more frequently for depending on certain medical conditions. Ask your Optometrist for the best schedule of OPTOS for you!

**Optos currently available at our Downtown Decatur location only. You may be been at any Eyeworks location and request an appointment at Decatur for the additional Optos screening.**

Visual Field Test – All Locations

A visual field test measures your peripheral vision (visual field). It is a straightforward, painless test. Essentially lights are flashed on, and you have to press a button whenever you see the light. Your head is kept still and you have to place your chin on a chin rest. The lights are bright or dim at different stages of the test. Some of the flashes are purely to check you are concentrating. Visual Field Test is recommended annually for all patients.
